PARENT PARTICIPATION

MCPC has been operated by parents for more than 70 years. As a cooperative member, you will work with children, share parental concerns, develop child-rearing strategies, and learn about child development and behavior. 

Many MCPC families have shared that despite how daunting the list of co-op responsibilities feel, the ability to provide feedback regarding their child’s curriculum and work alongside other like-minded parents provides an opportunity for growth as a parent and close friendships.

In return for the rewards and benefits of being so closely involved with your child's first school experience, you are expected to:

• Attend a mandatory half-day training in September

• Work one morning per week at the school (8:30am–12:30pm)

• Perform a school job that requires a minimum of two to four hours

  per week during the first year, including attending additional meetings as required for our role.

• Attend one general parent meeting per month and co-host one general meeting (Board members host one Board meeting instead)

• Complete two four-hour school maintenance shifts per year

• Perform duties as assigned by the Fundraising Chair in support of school fundraising events

• Provide snack on our work day as scheduled, approximately once every six weeks

A working parent is generally considered an adult that is a legal guardian of a child, however we understand that not all families that wish to participate in a co-op have the flexibility to be able to do so. Exceptions may be made for a grandparent / designated adult to fulfill the role of the working parent, please bring up your specific situation to our director.

The list of requirements may seem daunting so we attempt to be as transparent as possible in order for families to make the best decision possible about participating in a co-op.
